vision21
Vision21 began as the alumni association of past participants of the Building Rural Leaders program (BRL). We have just begun to invite graduates of other leadership programs to join our network. Learn more about BRL by clicking on the button.

our vision
Vision21 will be a powerful force for building a culture of leadership in Queensland regions that enables communities to deal effectively with chosen and un-chosen change that unleashes the potential of social, economic, natural, human and physical capital for the long-term benefit of life in Queensland.
our Values
Vision 21 will undertake its purpose in an environment that promotes:-
- Integrity
- Honesty
- Respect
- Learning
- Confidentiality
- A sense of safety
- Airing of differences
- BRL concepts applied at every level - as individuals; as a group and in undertaking tasks.
Our Principles
We will uphold these values by the regular practice of:
- Using evidence-based interventions to improve our impact
- Contributing to and building a knowledge base; storing and passing on leadership knowledge and experiences
- Selecting high leverage, high buy-in interventions, with keen collaborators on board
- Commitment to open communication and accountability - to each other and our partners - for our actions and measured results
- “Facilitative leadership” and “network leadership” rather than “command & control”
- Commitment to a mutual learning approach where differences become the opportunity for learning, not win-lose conflicts – focusing on interests, not positions
- Advocate and inquire; test assumptions and inferences; jointly define problems and design solutions; share all relevant information to enable free, informed choice; review each others’ results to develop a culture of community learning
We Believe
Vision21 is concerned with growing leadership, not leaders.
We expect leadership to come from anyone, anywhere, anytime.
The Monk's Quote reminds us to lead ourselves first. And the Ripple Effect reminds us that when we change our own behaviour, others must change. Not because we made them change but because it is impossible for any of us to stay the same when the world around us changes.
We believe that growing the number of people who believe they can offer leadership and supporting them to develop the confidence and skills to enable them to contribute leadership, the more we can achieve together.
Vision21 is concerned with growing leadership, not leaders.
We expect leadership to come from anyone, anywhere, anytime.
- No one person can achieve change, it must happen together, but one person can be the catalyst for change
- Everyone leads
- Leadership is an action, not a position
- Leadership is a relationship
- Leaders learn together
- Communities thrive more successfully than individuals

Our approach to change
Vision21 aims to be a safe and supportive space to learn and grow our capacity to lead ourselves and others to succeed, whatever the future brings. We aim to build a vibrant community of leadership practitioners who creatively and warm-heartedly support each other to be successful. It is a space where ideas and skills are shared, tested and improved.
The better we are prepared for change and the better skilled we are to lead it, the more likely we are to harvest the positives and manage the negatives of any change. Our network of leadership graduates has a wealth of talent, who collectively can achieve much more than we can by operating alone. This moment in history requires that we don’t wait for others to lead. We need every hand on deck and every talent on board.
